Sönke Schreiber has worked with us since 2007 as permanent stand-in and is good as the fifth member of ElbtonalPercussion.
He was born in 1980 in Hannover.
At the age of 16 he gathered his first experience in youth and amateur orchestras, which included trips overseas to countries such as Japan and Thailand. Sönke's final impetus to formally study percussion was winning first prize at the "Youth Making Music" national competition. Sönke attended the Hamburg University of Music from 2002 – 2009 where he studied with Professor Hans-Michael Petri. He also studied with Professor Massimo Drechsler, Cornelia Monske and the marimba soloists Nebojsa Zivkovic and Katarzyna Mycka. Sönke Schreiber's first appearance as a soloist was in 2003 performing the Concerto for Marimba and Wind Ensemble by Ney Rosauro and in 2004 performing the Concerto for Marimba, Vibra and Orchestra by Darius Milhaud. This was followed by a CD recording of the Rosauro Concerto in 2005. As a student he gained experience with opera orchestras such as the Philharmonic State Orchestra of Hamburg, where he is still receives engagements as a guest artist. After completing his studies Sönke has performed with many other orchestras and music groups. Particular mention should be made here of his intense collaboration with ElbtonalPercussion. He founded the "TastenZauberSchlag" Duo with pianist Elisaveta Ilina in 2007 and they have had many performances in northern Germany since then. Their engagements were promoted, in particular, by the "Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now" Association and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.
